Kuala Lumpur Restaurant: Aunty Nat
Along the western coast of Malaysia has been a long-time settlement of mainly Hokkien Chinese who have inter-married with Malays and created their own language and food. Collectively know as the Peranakan - they settled in Penang to Malacca and thru to Singapore. Their food is known as Nonya food - and has a good blend of Chinese, Thai and Malay spices. Definitely spicier than Malay food.
About two weeks ago Aunty Nat moved from its former Mid-Valley location to the center of town (north of the Suria-KLCC Mall and the Petronas Twin Towers). It's set in a little house with a few parking spaces and has A/C indoors or outside tables. Your choice of classic marble-topped tables or wooden benches n tables. Definitely a place to come back and try their RM9 lunch special.

A group of us shared dinner and can recommend the salted deep fried fish cut-up to bite-size pieces with a pitcher of Tiger beer for appetizers followed by kailan vegetables mixed with onions/chilis, curry chicken, sambal angle beans, Chinese-style chicken mixed with herbs and steamed rice. Hot Chinese tea is served in glasses - and comes with free re-fills and the lime drinks were popular.
Desserts are not too sweet - the caramel custard came with a great sauce, the pumpkin was cooked in the shell and came with some custard. Also tried the home-made sago gula melaka -- unsweetened sticky rice wrapped in leaves and served with a sweet sauce.
1. Aunty Nat: 4 Lorong Yap Kwan Seng, 50450 Kuala Lumpur, Tel: 03-2168-8126
2. Aunty Nat: 7, Jalan Sri Hartamas 7, Sri Hartamas, 50480, Kuala Lumpur, Tel 03-6201-1833
TIPS: If you're bringing someone with bad eyesight - be careful because there's an open culvert around the parking lot and some steps. The toilet is throne-like coz it's set three steps above the washroom floor - and has no railing. The restaurant is north of Menara Public Bank, Menara AmFinance, and the Australian High Commission - off Jalan Yap Kwan Seng. A great place to unwind after work and wait for the traffic to die down. The music's very relaxing too.
Here's their larger, older and more famous next-door-neighbor
Can anyone guess what Aunty Nat stands for?

We went back for lunch and tried the RM8 Halal Quick Meals. They were very quick - and big too. Can see in the pic - beef fried rice and some other dishes.
An excellent place for lunch - they have some parking in their compound and not crowded inside...can relax and talk with friends while eating.
Just be prepared for a bit of traffic on these roads.
