Travel Health - Airplane Health, Colds, Flus, Germs

These travel health articles, tips and thoughts will be edited on a continual basis.

Pink Eye (Conjunctivitis)
When traveling, don't touch your eyes! Use tissues. This temporary condition is not just for summer camp:

Colds, Flus, & Things on the airplane
Don't call me a hypochondriac - I might start worrying. But I do worry about traveling, catching germs and getting sick. We travel for pleasure and because we have a program at the other end, right? No need to be sick.

Always wash your hands thoroughly for 20-30 seconds with a lot of lather to get rid of the dead skin cells which the germs stick to - then use your towel to turn off the water and open the door. I also like to use those airplane wet towels to clean my face n hands then the arm rest and food tray. Be sure to follow-up with an alcohol-based handywipe to the same area. You could also bring your own large cotton napkin to put over your tray. See my other blog entry on airplane water.

For a good night's sleep, try one of those cheap cotton masks (which they sell for 5-10B in Thailand). Spray it with a mist of water whenever you wake up from your nap on the plane. This will help your sleep better because your air will be more humid than the dry airplane air. Of course you should also drink a hot drink everytime you wake up. (I haven't tried this mask idea yet - so please let me know if you've tried it.)

For health reasons, also bring along a few of the expensive high-grade masks. If someone's coughing, see if you can politely offer one up to them so they don't infect other passengers. (Keep one for yourself.)
